Lampard pushes Chelsea to open new contract talks

Frank Lampard is eager to extend his contract at Chelsea.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas revealed Lampard's agent had contacted the club's chief executive, Ron Gourlay, about a new deal.

The midfielder's £160,000-a-week contract runs out in June 2013 when he will be 35, but Lampard, 33, believes he has more than 18 months left in him at Chelsea and can do for the club what Ryan Giggs does at rivals Manchester United.

Villas-Boas said: "Ron Gourlay told me that (Lampard's agent) Steve Kutner contacted him recently. I'm not sure of the situation. He has played a big part in this club and he will continue to do so."
