With their new backing, Frank Lampard says Manchester City can follow Chelsea's example and become a European power.
After victory at Eastlands, Blues midfielder Lampard said: "Success won't happen overnight and it didn't happen to us overnight. You can't just throw in a load of top players and get results straight away.
"If they do it the right way they have a chance of being up there with the best. It was a potentially dangerous time to play them because of all the razzmatazz around them.
"With Robinho in the team they have a great player and he will make a real impact, but we had real focus, especially after we went a goal down.
"I don't know if this was a reminder for City, but if they are as serious as they say they are, then they have a great chance of breaking through. We did it and we want to sustain it."
