Lampard denies Champions League negative obsession at Chelsea

Frank Lampard insists the Champions League hasn't become a negative obsession at Chelsea.

Lampard denies that the Champions League is a priority for Chelsea despite owner Roman Abramovich's obsession with winning the competition.

"We didn't prioritise and set out to win the Champions League this season," he insisted. "We set out to win the league. That is your bread and butter.

"Ultimately we were trying to push on both fronts really. And there is more outside pressure on us to win the Champions League than there is inside the club.

"We're all aware, we're not stupid. We know we have been very close a lot of times and people talk about that a lot.

"It's quite cliched really, but every year we have to take it as it comes. And every year it's difficult. No matter what history you've had and how much bad luck you feel you have had or how close you've been.

"It gets spoken about more each year, it compounds it," he added.

"In the dressing room we just try and tackle it and do the best we can."
