Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is impressed by their new arrivals of Juan Mata and Raul Meireles.
Lampard has hailed £23million Spanish star Mata as Chelsea's 'missing link' and believes the signing of Portuguese midfield man Meireles will make up for the club's disappointment at failing to land Luka Modric from Tottenham.
He said: "I've only had a few days of training with Mata. He looks very sharp, has a great first touch and he's got a real awareness.
"I've only heard positive things about him. In his cameo of 20 minutes against Norwich a couple of weeks ago, he showed a lot for us to get excited about, so maybe he can be that missing link in terms of creativity and giving us something different.
"I think Meireles is a very good player too. It was almost a low-key one because everyone was talking about the Modric deal - but having seen Meireles and having spoken to people at Liverpool about him, they speak very highly of him."
