Lampard: Chelsea don't need to change for Barcelona trip

Chelsea ace Frank Lampard doesn't believe there's much to change for the second-leg of their Champions League semi at Barcelona.

Chelsea ace Frank Lampard doesn't believe there's much to change for the second-leg of their Champions League semi at Barcelona.

On Tuesday night it will be a case of more of the same – tenacious hard work, a committed team ethic and plenty of luck.

And the smart tactics laid down by interim manager Roberto di Matteo will also come into play. Lampard said: “We played the game we needed to play to beat Barcelona.

“As a midfield player you can’t go charging around. They have too many tools to hit you on the break so we played as perfectly as you can get because of the result.

“As for the winning goal and taking the ball off (Lionel) Messi, well, I don’t want to dig him out because I will be facing him again! But what we wanted to do worked. We played deep and caught them on the counter attack.

“Out there, we will need work rate and focus because their movement is first class. You cannot shut your mind off for a minute.

“And you have to work hard and close space all over the pitch. We have enough ability in the team to create something on the break.

“We have to feel that we have the players who can do things away from home. We have a spirit and a togetherness at the moment. But we under no illusions – it is a very tough game to come but we will give it everything we have got.

“Some of us have experience of playing there so that will help.”
