Lampard and Alonso clear the air ahead of Chelsea v Liverpool clash

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has cleared the air with rival Xabi Alonso ahead of the Chelsea v Liverpool Champions League.

The duo have a heated history on the pitch beginning with Lampard's challenge that left Alonso with a broken leg in 2005.

After England and Spain met in February, Lampard approached Alonso to bury the hatchet.

"It's always a good battle between Alonso and me. We have had our moments but there is a lot of respect," said Lampard.

"I spoke to him after the Spain game because of the red card and cleared the air a bit.

"Look, there are a lot more important things in the world than things in football and you shouldn't have petty arguments off the pitch."
