Southampton striker Ricki Lambert hailed the manner of their victory over Manchester City.
Saints were simply too strong for City on the day.
Lambert, 30, whose side moved up a place to 15th in the table said: "We got the early goal that we needed and then just got stronger and stronger.
"We realise the position we are in but we all believe that we are good enough to stay in this division - and then push on.
"We want to open up the gap on the bottom three as quickly as possible."
