Lambert praises young Villa team after Norwich fightback

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert was left to praise his players following Sunday's 4-1 victory over Norwich City at Villa Park.

Lambert's side fell behind inside three minutes when winter target Wes Hoolahan struck for the Canaries but the home team hit back through a quick-fire Christian Benteke double, a goal from Leandro Bacuna and an own-goal from Sebastien Bassong.

After the much-needed victory, Lambert spoke of the importance of such a result for an up and coming team who now find themselves seven points clear of the drop zone.

"Today we had a terrible start, but all credit to the team - we rode back really, really well," he told Sky Sports.

"The lads never really show that they are down and they keep on going.

"To win anyway was important, to win games in this league is really tough and hopefully we can keep carrying on.

"We're a group that tries to look forward than down, we try and get the next team above us. If we do that, then great. It's important to keep that belief.

"They're a young group and they need a bit of help sometimes. For effort and energy, they were excellent.

"The biggest thing is that we're playing well. Even up at Everton, we played well but we were beaten by a wonder goal. The performances haven't been too bad and we should have got more than what we have, but today I thought we were excellent."
