Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert was delighted with how his team performed in their 6-1 victory over Sunderland on Monday night.
A hat-trick from Christian Benteke as well as goals from Ron Vlaar, Andreas Weimann and Gabby Agbonlahor allowed Villa to move five points clear of the relegation zone and into 16th position, giving them a little breather going into the final three fixtures of the campaign, and thrilling their boss.
"The most important thing was to win. We started well and got the goal," Lambert told Sky Sports 1.
"First and foremost we had to win the game. We were playing against a Sunderland team bang in form. To get the goals we did, it gives us a great impetus to go to Norwich (on the weekend).
"We have put a lot of teams in the mix, pulled away from Wigan and are playing really well."
