He said: "I've got a Liverpool tattoo on my shoulder but I never admitted it before as I didn't want to come across as a mad fan.
"I've had to play it cool. But the more I got involved with England, the more questions I asked the Liverpool lads in the squad. They have had nothing but good words to say.
"I got the tattoo done after the Champions League Final win over AC Milan in 2005.
"I was at Rochdale at the time and didn't get to go to the final but I managed to go to all the European home games. "I remember the semi-final against Chelsea at Anfield - that was the best atmosphere I have experienced in my life.
"I didn't expect a chance with England but I used to think about it. I used to think I would deliver - and then I managed to score on my debut. To be honest, I wasn't expecting a chance at Liverpool either but I've got it now and I am more than confident I will take it.
"I think I will be able to improve my game again, just like I've done every season."
