Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert hailed the home fans in defeat to Manchester United.

Villa Park was rocking as the home time took a two-goal lead against Manchester United on Saturday.

And the stands echoed to warm applause despite Javier Hernandez's late winner for the Red Devils.

Lambert said: "You heard the crowd's reaction.

"The crowd is always a marker here. If the crowd get behind you, the club will be fine.

"People see what I'm trying to do. The crowd were brilliant.

"I was looking forward to hearing it like that since I came. My God, when that gets going, it's formidable that's for sure.

"The fans here know their football. They've been brought up on it. We do not play long ball. I'm pretty sure that if the crowd see that and stick with it, then the future's really, really good."
