Lambert flying to USA for crunch talks with Villa owner Lerner

Paul Lambert is flying to New York for clear the air talks with Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner.

Lerner has put Villa up for sale and manager Lambert wants to know where he stands.

The Daily Express says Lerner's decision has left Villa in a mess because there is not believed to be any immediate buyer on the horizon.

Lambert said only on Friday that the years of cost-cutting under Lerner had to end, and real investment put into the squad, or Villa would go down.

He has pledged not to walk away, but that was before Lerner announced he was selling up and the consequences it will bring.

Lambert spent yesterday at the training ground, with his phone turned off, talking to his players.
