Lambert delighted with Villa fightback in West Midlands derby

Paul Lambert was full of praise for his Aston Villa players after they salvaged a draw in the West Midlands derby against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.

The Baggies skipped away to a two-goal lead at The Hawthorns after Shane Long scored his second goal inside 12 minutes but Villa produced a second-half show with goals from Karim El Ahmadi and Ashley Westwood to clinch a point away from home.

The comeback performance of Villa, who managed to force a third score-draw in a row in this fixture, was certainly not lost on Lambert.

"I thought second half we were fantastic, terrific and were really resolute," he told Sky Sports.

"We were down 2-0 in 10 minutes and we were thinking that we need to hang in to half-time and get them back in. But second half we were outstanding.

"I don't think anybody can label our team as having a lack of character and to come back in a derby game, especially here with the atmosphere, and to do it in the way they've done it, I've nothing but praise for them."
