Lalas: LA Galaxy delighted with Beckham's England return

Lalas told BBC Radio Five Live: "We adhere to FIFA's rules and regulations regarding the release of any of our players.

"And if David continues to be called up for England we'll drive him to the airport.

"Let's be honest, it's not only an honour for him but also for the Galaxy and the fact we can say one of our players is named in the England squad, I think it's a wonderful statement on the quality that exists at the Galaxy."

Lalas also insists the competition in Major League Soccer is high enough to keep Beckham fit and sharp.

"We have a very high level over here. Any player that comes over here can continue to develop and I think if David is called back in that England is going to get a player that is physically and mentally sound and in form."

Lalas, who played in Serie A with Padova in the mid-1990s, also insisted the club would release Beckham for Euro 2008 - should England qualify - despite the competition taking place over three weeks in June, during the MLS season.

"We play an international game here and our fans understand that and we understand that and the bigger picture is important," Lalas continued.

"The fact we have players that are good enough to be called up to some of the best national teams in the world that is a wonderful statement on where we are.

"Next year is a long way away, a lot of things can happen.

"You can only look at what has happened in the last couple of months with regard to David to know things change pretty quickly in the world of football."
