Multinational Spanish banking group BBVA has extended its title sponsorship of Spain's La Liga, reports www.sportspromedia.com/ BBVA has sponsored the country's top soccer division since 2008 and will continue its investment for a further three years to 2016, with the new deal valued at 23.5 million (US$31.2 million) per year.
The new agreement, which also includes an option to extend for a further two years to 2018, was announced at an event in New York ahead of Spain's international friendly against the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday.
Spain's captain Iker Casillas and midfielder Andres Iniesta, both of whom are global BBVA ambassadors, attended the event.
BBVA chairman Francisco Gonzalez said his company fully supports the league's plans for international growth. "We want to carry on supporting it [La Liga] to bolster its profile in the United States, South America and Asia," he said.
