LA Galaxy's Beckham: I'll play tonight

LA Galaxy's England star David Beckham expects to play at least a half in today's SuperLiga semifinal against DC United.

Beckham made his Major League Soccer debut in the 1-0 defeat to DC United in Washington DC on Thursday when he came on as a 72nd-minute substitute but an adverse reaction to his injured left ankle saw him sit out Sunday's league game at New England Revolution.

The England midfielder's ankle showed no ill effects from the flight back to Los Angeles yesterday morning when he reported back to the club today.

He took an active part in today's training session and afterwards gave his most positive assessment yet of an injury that has dogged his Galaxy career since he joined the MLS club from Real Madrid on July 13.

"I think I can play at least half a game tomorrow, which is important for me," Beckham said.

"It's important for the team that I at least get on the pitch and help contribute.

"It was good to at least get out onto the field today and have a bit of practice.

"This is my first time obviously since I arrived to be out on the training pitch. It felt good."

The Galaxy face DC United at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, chasing the million dollar prize on offer for the winners of the inaugural SuperLiga, a tournament that started out last month between four MLS and four Mexican Primera Division sides.
