The LA Galaxy midfielder, who recently surpassed 100 caps for his country, resigned as captain following the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany.

The 33-year-old captained England for the first time in a friendly against Italy in 2000 and went on to hold his country's armband in another 58 games.

Chelsea defender John Terry, who has not travelled to the Caribbean, took the armband for the midweek victory against the USA, while Gareth Barry has been touted as another possible contender.

But Capello has turned to Beckham for England's final fixture of the season and will not name a full-time skipper until the World Cup qualifiers in September.
