Young forward Tristan Bowen has been traded by LA Galaxy to in-stadium rivals Chivas USA for allocation money.

The promising 19-year old was the Galaxy's first homegrown signing after being a product of the youth academy but they have decided to trade him to Chivas to get what could be useful cash in return.

Galaxy coach Bruce Arena admits it is a risk but says for the interest of the team and the attempt to bring in a third Designated Player, it was a vital move.

"It's a bit of a risk and a gamble on our part because we feel Tristan is a young player with great potential," Arena told "Given the issues with dealing with salary cap and improving our team in the short term, giving consideration to a third Designated Player, we had an opportunity to support that kind of thinking with receiving some allocation money in this trade."
