LA Galaxy teammates lash out at Beckham

David Beckham's LA Galaxy teammates have lashed out at him, branding him a poor captain among other things.

In a book entitled 'The Beckham Experiment' compiled by author Grant Wahl, Galaxy players including Landon Donovan have shed the light on the former Manchester United superstar.

Wahl writes: "By July 2008, the LA players had seen enough to realise that Beckham might be a good team-mate - but he wasn't much of a captain.

"It was one thing to take part in team events, the Galaxy players felt. But it was another thing to lead, to rally the players during tough times and defend the greater good of the team with the coach and the front office.

"Donovan noticed several things. For one, when Gullit gave the players an optional training day, Beckham rarely showed up.

"'As the captain you should at least come in and show your face,' Donovan said."

In another revelation, players have labelled Beckham as a 'cheapskate', saying he would rarely pick up the bill when out on the town.

"When it came to paying, Beckham didn't pick up the bill. He put in enough to cover his share and passed it along," one source told Wahl.

"Nobody would have believed it, he thought. Beckham is a cheapskate."
