LA Galaxy president Alexi Lalas has scoffed at claims star midfielder David Beckham isn't capable of playing for England any longer.

He said: "The hypocrites make me laugh when they say because he's in Major League Soccer he won't compete.

"A few weeks ago when he was playing against France, one of the best players on the pitch was David Beckham.

"The MLS will improve Beckham's ability to compete for a World Cup place. That tournament is about playing in heat and altitude.

"MLS offers this and will serve him well in terms of the preparation for a World Cup. England will get a well-prepared player."
