LA Galaxy star Keane thrilled for Trapattoni after Rep. of Ireland victory

Robbie Keane was over the moon for Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni after last night's 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Faroe Islands.

The LA Galaxy striker returned to action to help lead the Boys in Green to a comfortable victory in Torshavn which saw them go to third position on the Group C table behind Germany and Sweden.

Trapattoni's tenure was questioned by some outsiders after the side lost 6-1 to the Germans on Friday night but Keane revealed that he, and the rest of the squad, were right behind the Italian after last night's match.

"Of course, yes. Listening to his press conference yesterday, first of all, he's not going anywhere," said Keane.

"He knows that with the squad of players we have, we are quite capable of qualifying, and I believe we can qualify, there's no question about that.

"I still believe we can qualify and I am sure the manager believes that too, so I believe that the manager will be there with us.

"It's out of my hands, but I am sure every player would probably say the same, we want him to stay and continue this campaign."

He added: "I think in this day and age you have to expect a lot of tough questions.

"[But] I think if you want anyone answering back those questions it's Mr Trapattoni, he's been in the game a long time and was well able to handle himself."
