LA Galaxy star Keane eyeing career in management

Robbie Keane has revealed that he plans to enter the hectic world of management once his playing days are over.

At 34 years of age, the LA Galaxy captain has no plans to slow down just yet but he certainly has one eye on the future which could see him step into coaching when he opts to hang up his boots.

Keane has confirmed that he is currently undertaking his UEFA 'A License' coaching badges which will give him the opportunity to turn to management when his glittering playing days are behind him.

"I'm enjoying it but it is something that I want to have while I'm still playing," Keane told reporters in Dublin on the Galaxy's pre-season tour.

"I don't want to be one of these who when they're finished playing, they get an opportunity right away and then are in the middle of doing their badges.

"That can only distract you from the job that you're doing. If an opportunity does come along after I'm done playing then I [will] already have the badges and I can take the position if I want."

Former Tottenham and Liverpool attacker Keane, who is the Republic of Ireland's all-time leading scorer, was quizzed on whether or not he would be one day be interested in managing his country but he says the decision would not be up to him.

"Maybe, one day," the reigning MLS MVP added.

"It's certainly something that I'd be interested in. I'm not interested in it at the start, to be honest with you, but a few years down the line.

"You don't walk into jobs. First, you have to establish yourself first."
