LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham admits fears he may be axed by Fabio Capello for England's final World Cup squad.
Beckham will join up with AC Milan again in January for a five-month loan spell, as he did last year, in an attempt to play in what would be his fourth finals, a feat never achieved by an Englishman.
He said: "Of course I'd be upset if I am not part of the squad, but it is something I would still respect the manager for doing if he felt it was right because of the system he has of having the best players in the team. That is the way it should always be.
"Nothing is guaranteed. I have discovered that in my career. If I can be part of the World Cup, then it would be amazing. I would love to be here in South Africa. But if I don't make the squad, it's obviously not going to stop me supporting the team.
"Everybody knows how much I love playing for my country, but the manager will always pick a squad that he thinks will win the competition.
"I am 34, I have been in squads and I have been out of squads. It is something I don't take for granted . . . I never have."
