LA Galaxy signs Brazilian midfielder Marcelo Sarvas

MLS Cup winners LA Galaxy have signed Marcelo Sarvas from Costa Rican club LD Alajuelense.

The 30-year old Brazilian was heavily rumoured to be on his way to the Galaxy a few weeks back and now the move has ben confirmed although terms of the deal are undisclosed.

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena admits he was impressed by Sarvas after playing against Alajuelense twice during the CONCACAF Champions League during 2011.

"He's played against us twice this year, so we know the player," Arena said. "He's a good player. He's a good passer and is an experienced two-way midfielder. I think he's going to be a good addition."

Prior to joining Alajuelense in 2010, Sarvas spent time with Polish club Polonia Warsaw after about five years in Sweden with the likes of Bunkeflo IF, Mjallby, Kristianstads and Karlskrona.
