Robbie Keane paid tribute to Republic of Ireland fan James Nolan after he scored for LA Galaxy on the weekend.

The Irish national team captain produced a Galaxy shirt which read 'RIP James Nolan' after the 21-year old lost his life in Poland during Euro2012 because of an accidental drowning.

To pay his respects, Keane lifted the shirt towards the crowd when he put the Galaxy 2-0 ahead in their eventual 3-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps at The Home Depot Center and made mention of the County Wicklow man during the after match.

"It was a young Irish fan who went to Poland, 21 years of age, and unfortunately drowned," Keane said.

"Obviously, the whole country was sad and I called his father today to send my condolences and to say that my thoughts were with him and the family.

"It was just a gesture because the Irish people are very close and they stick with each other through good times and bad times. He was a big, big soccer fan and it was a shame, so it was just a show of respect really."

The Galaxy shirt with the message of support will now be given to the family of the late James Nolan.
