LA Galaxy’s Donovan: Don’t count me out of USA plans just yet

LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan suggests he should not yet be counted of the USA national team.

LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan suggests he should not yet be counted of the USA national team.

The 31-year old attacking midfielder has been seemingly replaced by Sporting Kansas City’s Graham Zusi in Juergen Klinsmann’s side and although he admits the 26-year old has deserved his place, Donovan has sent a warning.

“I think Graham’s been terrific,” said Donovan after providing an assist and scoring a goal in the weekend’s 2-0 victory over SKC.

“And aside from all the on-the-field stuff, I think he’s handled everything really well. I know he gets asked a lot about all this stuff and I said to him after the game that I think he’s doing a great job handling it.

“You could tell tonight he wasn’t completely on his game, but he has moments where he has something special. And I think he’s done a great job. He’s somebody who deserves to be where he’s at.”

He added: “I look forward to continuing to battle back and forth with him and hopefully push each other. He’s a lot younger than me. But don’t count the old guy out yet.”
