LA Galaxy's Donovan becomes joint MLS all-time leading scorer

Landon Donovan's brace in LA Galaxy's 5-0 win over Chivas USA moved him to equal first on the MLS all-time scoring chart.

The USA international joined Jeff Cunningham on 134 regular season goals when scoring in the 23rd and 41st minutes of the weekend's rout, which has taken his total to 156, including his record of 22 playoff goals.

Donovan admitted it was an achievement he acknowledges but says he won't really think about until after he has completed his obligations for the Galaxy who this season are chasing a third-straight MLS Cup title.

"If this had happened earlier in my career, I would have thought about it more," said Donovan. "But we're in a playoff race, so for us right now, it's about winning. But at halftime, it hit me and I realized it.

"I'll sit and think about it at some point, but for now I want to keep going. It would be nice to get [sole possession of the record] and get it out of the way, so there's no attention on it.

"I would trade ... maybe not all of them, but most of them for another championship ring. So, hopefully, we do that."

In joining former Columbus Crew, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC and FC Dallas ace Cunningham on 134 goals, Donovan was able to surpass the 133 goals scored by DC United and Bolivian great Jaime Moreno.
