Omar Gonzalez has signed a Designated Player contract with the LA Galaxy.
"To be the first Galaxy and US defender to be named as a Designated Player is a great honor for me," said Gonzalez.
Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena: "We are pleased that Omar will remain with the Galaxy.
“In the past five years, he has arguably developed in to the top defender in MLS. I believe he can continue to grow as a player and leader of our team."
During his career with the Galaxy, which kicked off in 2009, Gonzalez has helped the club win the 2011 and 2012 MLS Cups and the 2010 and 2011 Supporters’ Shields.
