LA Galaxy relishing tight race for Supporters' Shield

LA Galaxy players say it is healthy to have some strong competition in the race for the 2011 MLS Supporters' Shield.

The Galaxy were the best-performed team in the 2010 regular season to clinch their third shield and at present - with seven matches left - they sit four points clear of second-placed Seattle Sounders.

Todd Dunivant says it is great to have that competition as it makes the players strive for excellence in each and every game they play.

"It's absolutely good to have someone breathing down your neck," the defender said. "We don't have a lot of room for error.

"We've been on a great run and we're still only three (four) points clear right now of the Shield. There are teams with us and that's good because you want to be pushed. You want to be on your toes, kind of always looking over your shoulder."

And fellow defender AJ DeLeGarza echoed Dunivant's sentiments.

"We want to get as many points as we can no matter how far or how far behind anybody is," DeLaGarza said.

"We've just got to keep winning and worry about ourselves and if we keep doing that, we're not going to be too worried about what other teams are doing."
