LA Galaxy release rookie Boateng

The Los Angeles Galaxy have released rookie midfielder Josh Boateng from training camp, bringing the club's preseason roster to 26 players. A third round SuperDraft pick out of Liberty University, Boateng scored 21 goals and added 13 assists in his three seasons with the Flames after spending his freshman year at Virginia Tech. A native of Ghana, Boateng had been with the Galaxy since the opening of the preseason camp in January, but he was not in the 18-man squad for either of the club's games at the Pan-Pacific Championship.

In accordance with MLS league rules, the Galaxy are both roster and salary compliant. As of 2nd March 2009, MLS clubs can not have more than 24 players under contract and must be under the league's salary budget.
