LA Galaxy to reap benefits of Beckham training with Tottenham

David Beckham claims his decision to train with Tottenham will work in LA Galaxy's favour in the long run. The 35 year old spent six weeks with the Premier League club during the MLS off-season as he looked to maintain his fitness levels after rupturing his Achilles tendon last year.

"My only objective was to get fit for the Galaxy and the MLS season," said Beckham.

"My objective was not to play for a Premier League team, and I am grateful to Spurs and Harry (Redknapp) for how they looked after me.

"If there was an option to play then I would have taken it, but without doubt I wanted to go somewhere and train and not take the three months off and sit around doing nothing.

"At this stage of my career and with the injury I had I felt it was more important for me to train.

"This was the time I was always going to come back, that was agreed and nothing would have changed that."

He added: "I am happy to be back and I am happy to see some sun.

"I only missed a few weeks with the lads here but it was important for my fitness that I continue with my (training) level there and come back fitter than I was last season."

Beckham also insists there is no extra pressure on him to bring silverware to the club just because he is in the final year of his contract.

"It doesn't matter if it is the last year of my contract. Every year it is important for me to win something," he said.

"It is not about validating my time here with the Galaxy. It is not all about myself being a success.

"Of course I want to win trophies and championships but the most important thing is the club."
