LA Galaxy pursuing Beckham replacement says chief Leiweke

LA Galaxy chief Tim Leiweke has admitted that the MLS champions are in pursuit of a new Designated Player to replace David Beckham.

The English veteran has called time on his six-year stint with the Galaxy, which included the 2012 MLS Cup victory over Houston Dynamo on the weekend, and Leiweke says there are already plans in place to move for a new DP although there will be patience in making a decision.

"Yes, it does give us a DP slot, but don't expect us to rush out and go fill it. We're going to fill it with the right guy and it's the right guy for this marketplace, the right guy for (head coach) Bruce (Arena) and the team that he and (VP) Chris (Klein) want to build," said Leiweke.

"Chris and I have spent a lot of time talking about where we go find that next guy. It's going to have to be the right guy not the first guy, which means maybe we're patient for a year or two until we get the right guy."
