Team GB coach Stuart Pearce has failed to be convinced by LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham.

The People says Pearce is said to be convinced Beckham, 37, should not be one of the three over-aged players in the squad for the Games.

But it is believed that Pearce feels he will be required to select the former England captain on the say-so of Olympic chiefs, with Government figures also making it clear they want Becks selected to boost ticket sales and the team's profile.

While Beckham himself is desperate to play, he only wants to be selected for genuine football reasons.
