LA Galaxy to make Gonzalez a Designated Player

Sports Illustrated suggests that LA Galaxy will soon sign Omar Gonzalez to a Designated Player contract.

The Galaxy currently have Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan in DP slots but will add 24-year old centre-back Gonzalez to that elite group according to SI's Grant Wahl.

"Los Angeles is expected to announce soon that it has filled its maximum three DP slots with the extension of Omar Gonzalez's contract," he reported.

Gonzalez has been a key figure in LA's back-to-back MLS titles, winning the MLS Defender of the Year award in 2011 and the MLS Cup MVP last year.
