"We would like to thank the FFA, Lou Sticca at Stride Sports Management and all parties involved with making this game a reality," Galaxy Assistant General Manager Tom Payne said. "We are very excited to be taking the team to Australia and spreading our brand of soccer to a new market."
This will be the Galaxy's first-ever game in Australia and their first-ever game against a team from the A-League which began play in 2005. The Galaxy's opponent, Sydney FC, won the inaugural Hyundai A-League Grand Final, Australia's version of the MLS Cup, in 2005. Former Galaxy forward Michael Enfield currently plays for Sydney FC and is the only American player in the A-League, which features eight teams and begins its 2007 season in August.
