LA Galaxy clear Keane for Ireland duties ahead of England clash

MLS champions LA Galaxy have granted captain Robbie Keane permission to play for Republic of Ireland.

The former Tottenham striker was initially ruled out of the upcoming friendlies with England and Georgia because the Galaxy wanted him to fulfil his club obligations but is no longer the case with Keane released to take part in the June internationals.

"I would like to thank LA Galaxy for reconsidering their decision, after further conversations between us, which really means a lot to me," said Republic of Ireland's all-time leading goalscorer.

"We have reached an agreement that will enable me to make it to the games and I look forward to playing my part."
