LA Galaxy ace Keane in doubt for Rep of Ireland's WC qualifier with Germany

Robbie Keane could miss the Republic of Ireland's crucial World Cup qualifier with Germany on Friday.

The Irish take on Die Mannschaft in Cologne and are in desperate need of a win to keep their playoff hopes for the 2014 tournament alive.

LA Galaxy skipper Keane, always an integral part of the Ireland setup, is in doubt with an ankle injury but will be given every conceivable chance to prove his fitness according to interim manager Noel King.

"It's a bit of a precaution," King told media in Cologne on Thursday. "We'll make a decision on him tomorrow. He's still got a chance, but it's a medical decision, and we'll see tonight.

"He's healing, that's the process. He's being attended to. We're hopeful that he'll be all right for tomorrow. If he's not, then we hope that he's OK for Tuesday. There's no question of him going home. Robbie's desperate to play."

To keep their World Cup dream alive, Ireland needs to beat group leaders Germany and hope Austria beat Sweden in Solna.
