Kuyt refuses to accept Liverpool Euro hopes are over

Dirk Kuyt insists Liverpool can still finish in fifth place after defeat to Tottenham yesterday.

Spurs face Birmingham at home next weekend, while Liverpool travel to Aston Villa with Kuyt hoping Harry Redknapp's men will slip up.

"Obviously the result was very disappointing," said Kuyt. "We all hoped for a good result and a win, but it didn't happen.

"There's still one game to go and hopefully they (Spurs) will draw next week and we win and get into Europe next season.

"It's disappointing. We gave everything but it wasn't as good as the last couple of weeks."

Kuyt, who has impressed in a striking role in recent weeks, switched back to his regular right-wing position against Spurs to accommodate Andy Carroll in attack and the Dutchman insists he had no problem in being asked to switch positions.

"For me it doesn't matter, as long as I can help the team when I'm playing. That's the most important thing," added Kuyt.

"I always want to be vital in games by scoring goals or giving assists, and the most important thing is the result."
