Kuranyi rejects Sunderland after day-long talks

Schalke striker Kevin Kuranyi has rejected an offer from Sunderland.

The Daily Mail says Kuranyi last night turned down a £3.5million move to Sunderland after holding talks with club officials and his agents in Bavaria.

Kuranyi was given permission to miss Schalke's friendly against St Pauli in Hamburg and attend negotiations with a Sunderland delegation in the Bavarian village of Reitberg.

Despite reported interest from Chelsea, the 27-year-old striker was happy to discuss a possible deal with Sunderland at a racehorse stables owned by one of his agents, Roger Wittmann.

Another of his representatives, Jurgen Milewski, was also present, as the two parties tried to reach an agreement over his wage demands of around £3.5m a year.

But last night the Germany forward said: "I have decided I want to stay at Schalke."
