Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has joked about his initial move from Holland.

He joined Newcastle at 17, leaving dad, Peter, and mum, Rineke, behind in Holland.

Krul revealed: "The only thing I can say is that I had a very detailed, thoughtful plan when I left to go to Newcastle.

"My parents said in 2005 'Just go and try to make it in the next three years. If it doesn't work out, you're still only 20 years old.'

"Since then, the club have always helped me to progress, step by step, without forcing me."
