Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke is being urged to follow the Glazers lead at Manchester United. The Sun says Kroenke must now do for Arsenal what fellow American Glazer has done for United - sign up the club's superstar performer for life.
Fourteen months ago, Glazer faced a massive crisis when Wayne Rooney threatened to leave.
Rooney, with 18 months on his contract, said he would not sign a new one, questioning the club's ambition.
Within a fortnight, Rooney had penned a new deal and United won the title and reached the Champions League final.
Glazer then released £80m of the club's funds to bring in key players.
Van Persie has 18 months left on his deal and, while he has not said he wants out, the fact he is stalling on talks is enough to apply a dampener for fans.
For every fan, the thought he could be off in the summer is a constant worry.
It will be much worse than that for Kroenke if Van Persie is sold.
