Niko Kranjcar says he and Luka Modric are the ideal midfield partnership for Tottenham.

Modric is working his way back to full fitness after fracturing a fibula in August and Kranjcar is convinced they can combine as effectively at club level as they do for their national team.

"I believe we play well together for the national team and I hope we're going to play together for Tottenham," Kranjcar told the London Evening Standard. "For Croatia, he plays in the middle of midfield and I play down the left.

"We've proved throughout our careers that we can play together and that teams benefit from us two playing together.

"All we want is for Luka to get back to match fitness as soon as he can because he's a fantastic player who opens doors in games."
