The Croatia international was sold to Dynamo Kiev last week.
Kranjcar admitted: “We all saw Harry going to England. We were all surprised England didn’t make a move for him at that stage.”
Kranjcar, who quit Spurs at the end of the season to join Dynamo Kiev in a £6million move, added: “That’s football, it’s the most unpredictable sport in the world.
“Of course you feel bad for him but you also have respect and gratitude for him.
“It’s hard to comment on the situation. We all owe Harry so much. He built this team.
“He took over from Juande Ramos when Spurs were bottom of the table.
“It’s obviously hard on him but what happened between him and the chairman only they know.”
