Niko Kranjcar is confident he and Luka Modric can play in the same midfield.
Kranjcar was lured to Portsmouth from Hajduk Split four years ago - and rejoined Harry Redknapp at Spurs two months ago.
He now hopes to establish himself in the team following Modric's injury.
Modric broke a bone in his leg in a challenge in August with Birmingham's Lee Bowyer.
He said: "He is a friend. I spend a lot of time socially with him and Vedran.
"I had a similar experience last year with an injury and I told him to stay focused, calm and listen to his body - come back when the time is right and not rush it.
"I don't see myself as in competition with him. It's up to the gaffer where I play."
