Kouyate: West Ham must show we can handle Payet absence

West Ham midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate admits they need to show they can cope without Dimitri Payet.

The Hammers are looking to bounce back following their humiliating 4-1 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur last week but remain without Payet, who will be out for up to three months due to an ankle injury.

"We can't forget him because when you lose your best players it's hard to cope with," Kouyate said. "He has been the basis of the team. We must get by without him.

"We have got lots of games coming up where he won't be able to play. He is a very talented player who can make the difference. We need to try to play well without him."
