Kosmina sees a role for imports

Sydney FC coach John Kosmina believes there is definitely an upside for imports to play in the A-League. Previously, the Sky Blues haven't dealt much with foreigners but Kosmina's former club, Adelaide United have used overseas imports to great success.

One in particular is Brazilian midfielder Diego who Kosmina got to the club and rates very highly.

"I rate him big time," he told The Herlad.

"He's a lot more creative than he's given credit for, he scores goals, he's good with his head, and his work rate is phenomenal. He's the sort of import we need in Australia. He has extra qualities, which is why I signed him.

"I definitely see a role for imports, and not just for our club. But you have to take each opportunity at face value.

"I get agents ringing me three or four times a week trying to sell me someone from overseas, but there's always a bit of trial and error involved. So you have to be careful.

"The three guys I signed at Adelaide, we got a good opportunity to look at them firsthand before making a commitment. I'd assume, for instance, that the same thing happened when [Melbourne Victory coach] Ernie Merrick signed Ney Fabiano this year.

"He's a great player, he's done well, and it proves how important it is to look before you buy."
