Konchesky: Leicester move not a backward step

Paul Konchesky has dropped down into the Championship with Leicester but has ambitions of a swift return to the top flight. The 30-year-old left-back left Liverpool to sign a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday.

"It wasn't a tough decision. I have dropped down but I don't feel Leicester will be down here for long," said Konchesky, who has played for Charlton, Fulham, West Ham United and Liverpool in the Premier League.

"The owners have spent well so far, and judging from what others are saying there will be more signings too. It is a great time to be here and be part of it.

"Hopefully, we can push on this season and automatic promotion will be on the cards. The owners look like they are giving it, they want to get to the Premier League and I want to play a part in taking the club back up.

"It won't be easy to fulfil that ambition and there are some good sides who have dropped down. I think we are a good team too, but we have to show that on the pitch."
