Everton manager Ronald Koeman is hopeful of convincing Ross Barkley to stay at Goodison Park.
Ross Barkley has enjoyed a stunning campaign for Everton this term but the Toffees are currently very worried about his long-term future at the club as the coveted attacking midfielder has not yet signed an extension to his deal which expires in 2018.
Koeman has admitted that he will do everything possible to convince the 'homegrown' Barkley to sign a new deal with Everton but explained that the situation with Romelu Lukaku is a bit different.
Koeman said: "Ross is a boy from Everton and we need to show him the reasons to stay.
"But his situation is different to Rom, because next season will be the last year of his contract.
"You make decisions at the end of the season and you sign a new contract or you sell the player.
"There is no 'ultimatum', but that's business – and the player needs to understand this."
