Koeman rues Southampton inability to kill off West Ham

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman was left to rue his side's inability to kill off the game in their defeat to West Ham United on Monday.

The Saints lead 1-0 at half-time courtesy of a Carl Jenkinson own-goal but the Hammers made a comeback in the second half to claim a 2-1 win at Upton Park.

Second-half goals from Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll denied the Saints a second-straight win and disappointed Koeman in the process.

"It's not too difficult to explain," Koeman said. "We spoke at half-time about our first half and what we could expect in the second half.

"It was a different opponent with (Andy) Carroll on the pitch - more aggressive, more direct football, and that's more difficult. You need to control the game and in the first 20 minutes of the second half we lost more balls and made more mistakes, and out of two situations that's the reason we lost.

"If you play so well in the first half and don't score two or three goals and kill the game, then you can expect this."
