Koeman implores inexperienced Southampton to 'keep believing'

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman wants his players to maintain belief that they can mix it with the best sides in the Premier League.

The south coast club are just a point out of the top four after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Tuesday night and Koeman has implored his team to keep the mindset that they can continue to punch above their weight.

The Dutchman knows it will be difficult for the Saints to remain nipping at the heels of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United and keep their noses in front of Liverpool and Tottenham but he is holding hope.

"That kind of teams, the big teams, has experience," admitted Koeman.

"I have that experience but the players don't have that experience. It's a good lesson for the players to keep believing in a high position on the table.

"Every game is difficult.

"We can win every game, we can lose every game and that's the Premier League it means for us and the rest of the teams."

Southampton will now prepare for the March 15 clash with leaders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when the Premier League resumes after the upcoming FA Cup weekend.
